Recruiters will TRY to hold into your core documents if you let them: birth certificates, SSN card, passports, education docs, marriage Lic., etc... If you decide to back out, they hope to speak to you one last time when you come back for the originals and if you are adamant about not joining... Conveniently, the recruiter doesnt know where your file is. Your file is missing and you will be left absolutely out to dry. AR 601-210 Ch.2-1e certification that a copy is of the original document may be made by the station commander, first sergeant, company commander, operations SGT, a guidance counselor, a commissioned officer, or an equivalent contracted personnel assigned within USAREC, or equivalent recruiting personnel assigned to the National Guard, unless otherwise posted. That basically means is your recruiter will scan/copy your originals during the initial meeting and the station commander will verify by visually reviewing them. Then they are to give the originals back to you. You as the APPLICANT will hand carry them to the Guidance Counselor the day you do your enlistment contract. As per Army Regulation...
