We flew back into the islands from Tokyo on the 7th. Bumpy - TopicsExpress

We flew back into the islands from Tokyo on the 7th. Bumpy red-eye, arriving at 7am in Honolulu. We stopped by our fave furniture store which we knew had a new shipment of stuff and pounced. We managed to buy what we were missing from the bedrooms. So, those bits of furniture ought to arrive next week on the Young Brothers cargo ship. Ill need to fit it all on the trailer when I go down to Hilo port! Maybe renting a Uhaul is wiser... Anyway, as mentioned in my last post, two new beds were delivered yesterday and satellite broadband was installed the same day. The broadband works perfectly -- even skype works. Good speed but some latency. The only downside is that I have a monthly data limit. I cant remember the last time I had one of those. But satellite bandwidth if limited so understandable. I tried to get broadband in a variety of other ways but satellite was really the only thing we could get. Its not cheap and it has a limit but its the best thing going and its a lot better than what we had - nothing. No progress on getting a landline yet as We are having to re establish ourselves in terms of credit here and so this impacts the process of getting a phone line. Might take a month or two before this is resolved. I looked into VOIP but no one seems to offer Hawaiian numbers as they cost more than anywhere else and so they would need a separate tariff just for 808 customers -- something Skype, Vonage, etc dont want to do. Some furniture we ordered before we left for Tokyo should arrive Wednesday as will our new fridge.Though marginally bigger than our existing fridge, the new one uses less than half the electricity. We have also made the big investment in swapping all bulbs to LED. This has reduced out lighting electrical budget massively. Were still waiting for county and HELCO inspections for our Solar PV system. This process should take a couple of weeks to complete and then we can turn it on and start generating. In outdoor news, I have purchased 60 large sacks of chicken poo. Ive decided to opt out of using synthetic fertilizer for the trees and go organic. Its not as potent but it will improve the soil quality over time and the trees will still benefit greatly from it. We have some catching up to do in terms of picking up fronds that have fallen over the past three weeks but once thats done we will begin the spread the love. Finally, the pool contractor and excavator are coming out Monday morning where we will stake out the final layout and dimensions and sign docs to get this project started. Nest stop: permits!
