By this time next week, many of us will have sat in important (but not always riveting) meetings, met and attempted to learn the names of as many as 100 people (young and not-so-young), graded 100 or more assignments, dispelled some arguments, comforted anxiety, learned more names (as some left and some entered), distributed and recorded 100s of text books and papers, taken attendance multiple times, eaten 15-minute lunches (or none, depending how we need to use the brief break), reassured nervous parents, maintained high energy for 7 hours each day in order to maintain attention of sometimes less than motivated subjects, realized that dress shoes were not meant for maintaining high energy 7 hours a day..on our feet, worried about what our pets must be thinking as we left them alone for 7 hours, established clubs and other extra-curricular activities that will require more than 7 hours of our day, remembered fondly that only a week ago we had the option of sleeping late and staying in our pajamas all day, and finally, by this time next week, many of us will have remembered why we do what we do: teach kids and love not only the profession but the children for whom we get up early and stay late. P.S: Sleeping late is overrated, sleeping late is overrated, sleeping late is overrated. :)
