I was going to post something sad about the anniversary of the passing of my Dad, but I do not wish to be sad. I am thousands of miles away from my family and the last thing I want to be is sad. Today, I am thinking about happy memories. Happy memories of a man that loved his family. A man that served his country with honor. A man that enjoyed singing in the church choir with my Mom. A man that would help someone in need. A man not afraid to take a group of teenage boys to Philmont Scout Ranch, backpack for 2 weeks, eating mostly dehydrated food, and then endure the essence of those boys on the trip back home. A man that encouraged both his sons to become Eagle Scouts. A man that worried about my decision to join the military, but never discouraged it. A man happy to have a daughter-in-law that made his son happy. A man who took great joy in spending time and eating ham sandwiches with his grandson. That is the man I remember and the man I strive to be. If you have a story, please share.
