I wonder what Mary was thinking and feeling as the angel stood - TopicsExpress

I wonder what Mary was thinking and feeling as the angel stood before her, telling her of how her life would never be the same again. Did she wonder if she had lost her mind? Did she want to run away and hide? Was she afraid of what everyone would think of her? (She had reason to be, because according to the Law Joseph could have had her stoned to death for being pregnant before she married him). Yet, what we see is a young girl accepting Gods plan with only one question: How will this be since I am a virgin? I accepted Christ when I was 13, near the age some say Mary probably would have been betrothed. I remember thinking Jesus was the most glorious One I had ever met, and feeling filled with love, gratitude, and joy at receiving His salvation. However, this childlike acceptance soon changed. I didnt really know much about Him or understand what He had done in any depth at such a young age (much like Mary, I imagine), and as I grew older, I began to ponder those things I did not understand, and question Who He was and what He wanted from me. I even went through a period in my life where I wondered if we were just chess pieces on a board God was moving around for His amusement, or if we were simply worker bees with no real will or involvement in our own lives. Mary, also, went through a phase of not understanding what Jesus was doing, even questioning Him and forgetting what she had been told about Him, but it did not last. Thanks be to God, He didnt give up on me, and began to teach me about Himself and who He made me to be. Our relationship deepened and grew, and much like Mary, who by Acts 1:14 is reported as being in constant prayer. May we all this Christmas accept Gods word of truth to us with willingness and receptivity, like Mary the young girl; come to know, understand, and love Jesus and His love, like Mary the mother who stood at the foot of the cross watching her Son suffer; and be in constant prayer, like Mary the follower of the resurrected Christ. - Donna Lane
