Its been a LONG time since Ive been on my high horse, but Ive seen way to many Newf pups on the forums being sold before they should be. A Newf pup MUST be evaluated by a cardiologist, not just a regular vet. This cannot be done before 9-10 weeks old. Newfs can be afflicted with SAS (sub aortic stenosis). SAS can range from a Grade 1 to Grade 6 murmur. Grade 6 being the most severe. There is not a line that is not susceptible to SAS! Both of my Newf pups that I adopted were Grade 5 murmurs. Both lived only a little over 2 years old. Both were happy, healthy appearing, full of energy, and the normal person would not have guessed there was an issue. Even knowing and being well educated on SAS, knowing the possibilities, it is more than heartbreaking to wake up in the morning and find your baby has passed away during the night. Imagine what it must feel like for people who dont have breeders that do the proper heart tests??? Here is my Beau. I adopted him the day he did not pass his cardio test. He was SAS with a Grade 5 murmur. He passed away less than 2 weeks after his 2nd birthday, in his sleep. Not one day did he ever show signs of not feeling well. He was the happiest, most loveable pup. Please educate yourself when getting your new puppy. Work with breeders who do all the right things, not the breeders who take your money and do no health screenings!! https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=428265537193946&set=a.428260923861074.93166.100000315091030&type=3&theater
