MOVIE MONEY! Here are some good resources to finance your film. They’re mostly created in England so they’re a little on the too-literate side but they get to the point. 1) MICRO-FILMMAKER MAGAZINE – Dozens of articles on making No-Budget films. “http: //microfilmmaker ” 2) MONEY SAVING EXPERT – UK site dealing with the best “0%” credit card deals… Be careful. A good help for hotel and food deals but can be dangersous… “www .MoneySavingExpert ” 3) NATPE Pitch Con – An annual event in Miami, more geared to the television industry, where a panel of pros listen to first-timers pitch their ideas. “www .Pitchcon .org” 4) NEW YORK WOMEN IN FILM/TV – Solid organization for numerous grants, mostly for in-kind post-production services. “www .NYwift .org” 5) THE ANGRY FILMMAKER SURVIVAL GUIDE (Part One) – Sub-titltled “Making The Extreme No-Budget Film”, superb book/site from Gus Van Sant’s Sound Designer who actually directed a 3-week (18-Day Shoot) on a budget of $6,000. Thus, he talks not from theory but from reality. On his website there are a lot of resources such as “Cool Crap To Own” (“www .AngryFilmmaker ”) 6) THE BIG ART LITTLE DEBT PLAN – An excellent article titled “Balancing Risk & Responsibility While Making Great Films” by Ester Robinson. The article has a 5-step plan for getting your film made if you don’t have a trust fund. (Filmmaker Magazine, Winter, 2010) (“www .FilmmakerMagazine /issues/winter2010/successfulfilmmaker .php”) 7) THE EDIT CENTER – An edit center in NY, that is affordable and trains people to use Final Cut Pro. A very good affordable place to get a “rough cut”. Many independent films that secured distribution and made it to Sundance got a first-cut here. (“www .TheEditCenter ”) ROY DEAN GRANT – Provides grants and in good services by a woman who founded the 35mm film re-sell program where in the 80s-90s everyone went to buy “Buybacks”, “Recans” and “Ends” for 80% discounts over what Kodak & Fuji charged. (“www .FromTheHeartProductions ”), plys the founder, Ms Carol Dean, has an excellent book on funding your first feature film. 9) STATE INCENTIVE FUNDS: For details go to… a. “www .AFCI .org” b. “www .TheIncentivesOffice ” c. “www .TaxCreditsLLC ” d. “www .FilmTaxIncentives ” e. “www .EntertainmentPartners ” 10) CROWD FUNNDING: This ain’t not new. It’s 200 years old. The Statue of Liberty was brought to America by Crowd Funding, a French Entrepeneur built this “thing” and (A) couldn’t sell it to France to place next to the Eiffel Tower, after being snubbed he “schlepped” (B) brought it to America, first Washington DC who didn’t want it next to the Lincoln Memorial and then “lugged” it to (C) NY State (Albany) who said “We don’t want this”, then, as a last resort, tried (D) Manhattan who said “we got this isolated little island but you gotta pay for it…Thus, he took a adds in 20 NY newspapers, gave it a “Honor your Relative/Immigrant publically correct slant” and got donation for 500,000 Bricks, Yes, bricks to build the foundation, of course each brick is named after someone’s mother or father… and the rest is history. a.
