Maintenance classes starting this week Wednesday 25th and Saturday 28th June 2014! South West Community Cycles are now offering bike maintenance classes.This is your chance to be less terrible at the jobs that you previously dared not even attempt and had you scuttling off to the bike shop purse in hand. Learn, meet new people and wolf down pastries with the reformed hipsters of South West. We will be covering general bike safety checks, brake adjustment, chain and gear cleaning, general bike setup, puncture repairs and all manner of other fun jobs to keep you on the road. Wednesday evenings 1815 to 1945 hours Saturday mornings 1030 to 1200 hours The four week programme is: 1st week: general introduction (oils/ tools/ bike parts and functions/ the ‘M’check) 2nd week: wheels/ tyres (punctures/ tyre fitting/ removing and returning a rear wheel ) 3rd week: gears (types/ cables/ indexing/ why they fail!) 4th week: brakes (types/ function/ troubleshooting and maintenance) This is a four hour course in basic bike maintenance, delivered over four weeks by a qualified mechanic (Mark aka ‘the bearded supremo’) and will be followed by a social sit down (coffee and croissants de rigeur). The course will be FREE to participants who live within the postcodes G41, G42, G43, G51, G53, G22 or a trifling ten pounds for all four weeks or three pounds an hour for any one session.
