“Personalized medicine refers to the strategy of trying to identify patients who are responders to a therapy prior to initiating therapy, which means that not only the drug but a companion diagnostic needs to be developed and validated,” Anna Bucsics (Department Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Affairs, Main Association of Austrian Social Security Institutions, Austria) explains. “Currently, this field is very technology driven, which leaves very little time and energy to address patient care, the patient experience, and societal and economic aspects.
