There had been much hype about the bay by many forigners here in Korea on many a blogs. Even though I did not find it as I had expected it to be, a visit there is refreshing and its worth as it certainly unfolded a cool eco habitat properly developed into a tourist potential by the authorities. The is more talked about for its field of reeds, 5 to 6 feet in height or sometimes even more, which constitutes an eco habitat to many plants and water birds. So I believe the early spring should have been the proper time to visit as one could also expect some migratory birds there. I am told that changing colors of the sky over Suncheon Bay fascinate the photographers, but the weather on my second day of the trip to Sucheon , which had earlier been cool and more pleasant than in Seoul, had turned to be warm in the afternoon. Moreover, this being a Sunday during the middle of the Suncheon Garden Expo, there was also the milling crowd creating a carnival-like atmosphere there since the Expo had integrated the bay into its fold. Ideally it should have been delinked as a separate event as normally the visitors to such a place normally do not happen to be all those who visit the Garden Expo fair. Any way here I was! The crowd in deed was so much that there was no chance to be able to board the tram for a safari of the reeds field or even to make it to the top of the observatory for birds watch. The ticket wait to board the tram was 5 hours 30 minutes practically with no scope and hence the ticket sale discontinued as I was politely told by the young lady on the counter. Even for a boat safari the wait was one hour 30 minutes and I did not want to lose the golden opportunity. I bought the ticket and decided to spend the rest of the waiting time, before I could board a boat, in roaming around in the beautifully landscaped area near Suncheon Bay thus exploring the corners for children, a number of swings and resting places, statues and fountains, museum and the like, as also going above the wooden bridges leading towards the paths of the field of reeds or to the watch towers and the observatory and possibly to look for expanse of the field, the river, and the bay, and may be even some birds hiding in the reeds since one could easily hear their conversations and songs from within the reeds. Clicked some photos and came to board a boat at the designated time. The weather being hot for the area at 26 or so in Celsius our chances of encounter with birds were largely dim. A couple of fellow companion on the boat were ready with their photo armors to click a bird in the reeds right at their glance. A young man had his grip on the tripod holding his eye fixed on his cam fitted with a Canon 300 mm lens though I too was patiently alert with my Canon EOS 7D with a Canon EF 75-300 mm US IS lens. The weather being hot and there being an unduly large crown moving around in the area, birds seemed to have simply retreated to their hide outs in the thick reeds or possibly parched atop the tall hide outs in the forest on the nearby mountainous terrain. Otherwise also the summer is not a good season to meet the winged friends when they have nice cool places around to spend time. Any way I gould click some odd images of the things around the bay as I could also stealthily shoot images of some small birds in the reeds or some others in the distant forest.
