This is my sons dog. He is 8, she is 1. They are best friends. Yesterday, someone came flying down our street just as Sophie ran down the street to tell one of her doggie friends hello. Sophie isnt just a dog to our family. She is an almost constant companion to my son. She lays with him when he cries about kids being mean to him at school because he is different. You see, DJ is epileptic. He doesnt have grand mal seizures. He has petit mal seizures. If you dont know what the difference is, please be patient while I do my best to explain. DJ will be in the middle of doing something, it can be anything: Playing, school work, using the restroom, telling us a story the teacher told at school, and all motor control stops. He often urinated on himself because of this, he wears the night time pull ups for big kids all of the time. He also drops his lunch tray at school, this causes most of the ridicule he receives from the children at school. When he comes home so frustrated and crying, Sophie is there to greet him with a wet kiss and some quite snuggles. Her patient love has done wonders for his behavior issues. When he has seizures at home, she puts herself between him and whatever is nearby to prevent him from hurting himself. While we are thankful that only her leg got hurt, she has a long road of recovery ahead of her. She usually jumps on the sofa with us, she cant do that now. Id really like to get her a big fluffy pillow to lay on the floor near us. Id also like to get some bowls that have a raised stand so she can eat and drink easily. Of course, most of the funds I raise will go to vet bills. Yesterday I took her to an emergency veterinarian clinic. The bill was almost $300. Tomorrow, she has to go to the regular vet to get a cast or pins to set her leg. I have no clue what the cost is going to be. Our family needs your help. Every dollar is greatly appreciated.
