Want an example of how much you can trust the media? I gave an interview to U.S. News and World Report last week on what life is like rising a child with Down syndrome. I talked about how privileged we feel that God would allow us to parent a child like Noah. How our life is filled with joy, and love. And how we wouldnt change one single chromosome on him. We arent sad, depressed, or coping. In fact, having Noah is seriously one of the best thing that has ever happened to our family. I talked about how Noah is a perfect reminder of Psalm 139, and that we know that God created Noah for a purpose and we are daily reminded of Gods goodness when we see how God is using little boy to make an impact all over the world. If you know me at all, then you know how true that is. I love this kid. So what do they do? They take my comments out of context, and only talk about a friction of what I talked to them about. They leave out so many important parts of the interview. Then they put a few selected quotes from our entire interview into a story about parents who are frightened, coping, and have children with health problems. To be clear, we arent frightened. We dont have anything to cope with. And we most certainly dont think Noah has a health problem. I say all of that to remind you not to trust everything you read in the media. They arrange information to paint the picture they want to paint. Its articles like this that paint a bleak picture for parents receiving a diagnosis of Down syndrome for their child. And its articles like this we work so hard to correct. Im very disappointed in this article and the way they used my interview. Our family is 1,000,000 times more joy filled with Noah in it, and we regularly thank God for allowing us to be his parents. #Truth
