Mama Chrisman Holiday Programs Send this page to a friend Email envolope Bell Ringing How you can make a difference: Many volunteers are always needed! You can volunteer to ring a bell for a two-hour shift at locations throughout Bloomington-Normal. If you are a member of a club, organization or service group, your group can volunteer to work the entire day (10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.) at one location. Red kettles will be placed throughout Bloomington and Normal beginning November 16- December 24, 2012. We do not ring on Sunday. How we make a difference: The funds raised at the kettle are used throughout the entire year to fund all of The Salvation Army programs including: Food Pantry Energy Assistance Fuel Medical needs Holiday Assistance (food and toys) Safe Harbor homeless shelter Summer Camp Youth programs Less than 5 cents of every dollar collected is used for fundraising costs. Food drives throughout the year are so important because the food collected stocks the shelves of our food pantry and is the food distributed in the Christmas Assistance program. We are now accepting food donations for the Christmas food boxes. The items listed below are the typical items needed. Jello Boxed Stuffing Boxed Potatoes Boxed Deserts Gravy Mix Canned Corn Canned Green Beans Canned Yams Canned Hams Corn Bread Mix Gift cards to Aldis and Cub Foods Toys How you can make a difference: Volunteers will be needed in November and December to sort and organize incoming toys, set up the toy shop, help with the Teen Tree, and help with the toy distribution. How we make a difference: The Salvation Army partners with Toys 4 Tots to distribute toys to needy families in McLean County. Toys 4 Tots collects toys, along with The Salvation Armys Angel Tree & Teen Tree. The Salvation Army distributes these toys. For each child, parents come to the toyshop: Choose toys Receive a bag of books Choose one family board game Receive stocking stuffers For more information about this program or to volunteer, please contact Joyce Glasscock at (309) 829-9476 x203 Coats For Kids How you can make a difference: Donate a new or gently used coat, hat, mittens or gloves to The Salvation Army. This winter wear drive begins October and runs through Mid January. Coats can be dropped off at: - Any Walgreens location through October - OSF St. Joseph Medical Center - Center for Health at Ft. Jesse - Midwest Fiber - The Salvation Army How we make a difference: We distribute these coats, hats, and mittens to children and families who are in need of winter clothing.
